drawing close to Him."

Have you always loved music, and what was the first song that you learned to sing or play?

Yes, I've liked music for as long as I can remember. It's actually kind of funny, because no one in my family plays anything. I'm not sure where this came from. The first song I learned to play was the theme song from Pirates of the Caribbean. I don’t know why, but I just like the movie sounds. When I learned how to play it, I was like, "Okay, this is really cool. This is really fun, I want to keep on learning songs." I must have been ten or eleven.

You mentioned online that you record your music at home rather than in the studio. Can you walk our readers through that process?

I do record most of the music at home, like you said. Sometimes I will go to the studio, but most of the time I'll do it at home. Usually it starts with writing, I'll get an idea and I’ll write a little bit each day, then there’s a pretty big gap between writing a song and actually releasing the song. When it comes to releasing a song, I kind of go back through the songs that I have written, and I'll choose one based on the message, the vibe, or just what I feel like God is leading me to put out in that specific moment, and then from there, we'll build the tracks, record the vocals, and shape the sound until it is what we're looking for. I like it because I feel like it lets me be intentional with what I'm putting out. You're paying per hour, so you have that time where you have to be quick, and you’ve got to get it done. So doing it at home just kind of lets me do it more at my own pace, and really narrow it down to what I want it to be. I have a team of people, it's students that I work with, two brothers, they're really kind.

Give us your elevator testimony. You have one minute to share the joy of salvation through Christ with somebody in an elevator using your redemption story. What would you say?

I grew up going to church, and looking back over my life, I can see how God's hand was over my life, but as I got older, I decided to jump out of His hands, so to speak, and go my own way, do my own thing, which in hindsight, was a terrible choice. My life was ups and downs, but even in that, I always felt God calling me back to Him. Since then, my walk with the Lord has been about discipleship and growth. Christianity is not a one time thing. It's something that takes time, and it's a daily walk of drawing close to Him. I think that's where I am, I'm just trying to be a little bit better each day.

Your brand new song “Riches In Luxury”  just dropped on February 27th, which is really exciting. How has the response been to that?

It's been really encouraging. I've had a lot of people reach out personally to me saying that they liked the song, and that they resonate with the message. The song is about the idea that what God has for us is far better than anything that the world may try to sell us, things like status, wealth, fame, and success. So, hearing that people are really connecting with that message has been meaningful to me, and I'm excited to see where it goes from here.

What is your life Bible verse?

This one is really hard because it changes, depending on the season of life that I'm in. So I couldn't really pick one. If I had to pick one right now, I would pick Psalm 42. It says “As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.” There's a long story behind it, but I work at a church, and in the office they had this massive framed picture thing with that verse on it, and I had been thinking about that verse the entire week. It's one of those ways that God speaks to you. When you’ve been thinking about something, and then you see it somewhere else, someone else who talks about it, that's how you know that it's God who speaks to you. So I like that verse because it reminds me to want to grow closer to God. For me to actually want to do it, and to just want it with everything that I have.
